The Instead and Upgrade Wheel: Part 1 of 2

Written by on November 30, 2015

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2, ESV).

Don’t you wish we could get rid of negativity in people? I sure do. But the truth is, every day, I interact with people who have different degrees of freedom. For that matter, sometimes my sense of freedom takes its own roller coaster ride. Rats!

At a Christian conference this fall, when the leader of a prayer team spoke to me, she came across as condescending, intense, and negative. She responded to everyone’s group Facebook page comments but mine. I’d sent emails, handmade cards, and texts to uplift and encourage her throughout the year. But following the conference, I felt rejected, hurt and angry. It threw me off my game.

Disheartened, I fought back tears on the flight home. I was tired and cross.

“So, Holy Spirit—this is a good time to go into self-pity, right?”

The Holy Spirit, who I call Co-Co (Comforter and Counselor), leaned over and said, “Nope. Get out your journal.”

Grrr. When I write out my thoughts, my emotions come, tumbling one on top of another, and I have to deal with the raw pain. Who has the energy to deal with putting all that into words in the moment?

So, more out of sheer obedience than chipperocity, I started a new journal page and wrote out a list of lies. Co-Co helped:

  • My struggle is against flesh and blood.
  • I should quit.
  • Leaders always live their messages consistently.
  • Leaders always live free of generational wounds.
  • I’m invisible.
  • I’m guilty. Unforgivable. Unpardonable.
  • I’m arrogant and proud.
  • My naivety is my Achilles heel.

There, I said to myself, I’m glad that’s over! I leaned back in my plane seat and looked out the window at the clouds below. I massaged my temples.

Then the Holy Spirit whispered in my heart, “We’re just getting started.”

I murmured, “What do you mean?”

“We’re going to draw a wheel,” He said.  “Only it’s not an ordinary wheel.  It’s a supernatural wheel.  And this is how I want you to draw it.”

To be continued.

Friend, when you feel hurt or angry, what does Co-Co say to you?

Hey Lynn! You can’t just stop like that!
A new word–“chipperocity.” I’ll have to see if I can use that on the guys down at the barber shop.
I am a bit put out that you copied MY list of lies. How did you get ahold of my journal?
Part 2 is coming out when?

Hi Sam! The guys down at your barber shop are going to flip over “chipperocity,” I just know it. That’s funny that you have a similar list of lies. One of my lies is that I’m the only one with a list of lies like this! Don’t touch that remote control. Part 2 will be Tues. Dec. 8. (I know, I know, the suspense is killing me, too!)

Lately, when I feel hurt or angry, God has been asking me to search to see if shame is at the root of it. I hunger to be adequate. In His presence, I am enough and I am quite simply loved. 1John 4:8 “For God is love.”

Susan, I love it when God peels shame off us. I got excited when God told me a few years ago, “I’m never ashamed of you. Never. Even on your worst days.” We are simply loved – yayyyy!
