My daughter-in-law, Jill, was in active labor for twenty-four hours. Then Saturday morning she was swept into surgery for a C-section. Soon she emerged from the room with a glorious trophy: her new baby. Pictured here are Jill, my son Ben, and their beautiful eight-pound three-ounce son, Logan.
Jill had carried Logan for two long weeks past her due date. Each night, she got more restless to be done with the pregnancy. Her back was sore and she felt nauseous. She went to bed thinking, “This could be the big night,” just to wake up empty-handed.
I don’t know about you, but for me, the hardest part of God’s promises is waiting for Him to make good on them. The Lord tells you it’s a season replete with possibilities, yet you’re waking up with no visible results.
Maybe it seems like a big stall. “What’s up with that, Lord? When are things kicking into gear?” you ask.
- Frame this time in terms of expectancy. Ask, “How can I prepare for the birth of a new dream that stirs within me?” What concrete steps can you take to demonstrate your faith in action?
- Consider the limitless possibilities of what God’s up to. Look for a new person God introduces into the equation. You know, new dream, new team.
- Spend times of intimacy with the Holy Spirit and ask, “Who am I becoming?” Just as following the birth of my first grandchild, God gave me a new name, “Grammy,” He’s giving you a new name in this season. What is it? Ask Him!
Here’s the best news of all about God-promises: He delivers.
What else does God give us in the wait?
